THE ESTATE OF MARIE ANTOINETTE

The estate of Marie Antoinette

The estate of Marie Antoinette

The estate consists of :

  • The Petit Trianon
  • The Queen’s theater
  • The chapel
  • The French Pavillion
  • The Grand Trianon...

And many more buildings among of a group of gardens, hillocks, rocks and streams… an artificial landscape that recreates nature.
For Marie-Antoinette who loved nature this place was a leisure and intimacy haven far from the court heavy etiquette.

The Petit Trianon

The Petit Trianon

Masterpiece of the Estate of Marie-Antoinette, the Petit Trianon is a castle built in the park of Versailles during Louis XV reign. It was offered by Louis XVI to Marie-Antoinette.
It is a three storey square building. The central door opens on the staircase adorned with a magnificent banister made of wrought iron. On the first floor are the reception rooms and the queen’s apartment. Around the Petit Trianon are all the elements that made the palace famous : the French garden with its chapel and Marie-antoinette’s theatre, the English garden with the belvedere, the temple of love, and the queen’s Hamlet.

The Grand Trianon

The Grand Trianon

The Grand Trianon or Trianon of marble was built during Louis XIV’s reign. The king wanted to have a haven at the end of the park far from the servitudes of power and from the courtiers. It was possible to get there by boat through the Grand Canal.
The palace consists of two sets of buildings linked by a peristyle adorned with columns which reveals the garden and its beds of flowers. This one-storey building is of Italian-style architecture with a flat roof hidden by a balustrade.
Later on, Napoleon lived there and refurnished it, then Louis-Philippe had it restored.
